An Accidental New Year's Resolution

Jessica and I are not watching T.V. for a while. It's not some big resolution or anything but what happened is that our "dog ears" broke on our set and we have enjoyed the time not wasted in front of the tube. Yes, there are some people who do not have cable and use antennas to get the local stations! Anyways, we both are going to try and fast a while and spend more time with each other, exercising, reading, and whatever else! I'm looking forward to it except the few shows I do like. I'll keep you all updated as to how long we go with out t.v.

I still use the old dog ears too...though I call them rabbit ears. Anyway, before I got married and I was still at my parents house, I had to share the TV with five other people. Well, I worked 10 hours a day, and when I came home, I had little desire to watch TV, I just wanted to relax.

So gradually, I drifted away from the TV, and I didn't miss it at all. If I wanted some entertainment, I'd listen to some music, or read, or go for a walk or whatever. But for the last few months before we were married, I bet you could count the hours of TV I watched on one hand.

Then I got married. And when that happened, I only had to share a TV with one person. And there were 10 seasons of Friends on my bookshelf, three seasons of The Office, several good movies, and a good number of TV channels. I still hardly watch any TV on my own, but I sit down with my wife all the time now and watch it. I gotta get away from the TV more again.

Okay, point of this long comment: not having a TV is okay. In fact, it may even be good.

Happy New Year to you too.

Hey, good to know I am not the only one without cable. I don't watch much tv, so it doesn't make sense to pay for it at this moment. I tried a TV fast and it's amazing how much you miss when you spend so much time in front of the tube (or computer in my case). I would also recommend eating together at the table. Many Americans eat in front of the TV and don't say one word to each other during that time. I like to have a nice conversation with wife and kids during dinner.
